　インド人の旅行者が誘拐されたけど、芸が身を助け自ら自由になったという話。

Taliban captive won his release by cooking curry

タリバンの捕虜はカレーを作って解放されました。


Somen Debnath was travelling through the war-torn country as part of a five-year bicycle ride through 33 countries to promote Aids awareness.

ソメン・デブナス氏は、エイズの知識を広めるために33カ国を5年間自転車で回っていました。そして戦争で引き裂かれた国(アフガニスタン)を旅行していました。


But he was taken by armed militants - who assumed he was a spy - as he travelled through the remote region of Herat.

　しかし、彼は武装した兵士に連れて行かれました。誰かが、証拠もないのに彼はスパイであると考えました。なぜなら、彼が首都へラート辺境を旅していたからです。


He spent three weeks blindfolded strapped to a chair in a pitch black 10ft by 10ft dungeon living in daily fear that he would be killed.

　彼は、3週間を、真っ暗闇の10フィート×10フィートの土牢のいすに縛られた状態で目隠しされ、殺されるだろうという恐怖の中で過ごしました。


Unable to understand his captors' commands, Indian-born Mr Debnath, 28, was regularly beaten for disobeying orders, starved and repeatedly told he was going to die.

　誘拐犯の命令が理解できないため、インド出身のソメン・デブナス氏は命令に従わないといつも叩かれました。飢えて、お前は死ぬと何度も聞かされました。


But after realising that one of his captors had a very basic grasp of English, he convinced him to allow him to cook them all a meal.

　しかし誘拐犯の1人が非常に基本的な英語を理解できることがわかった後、彼は、あなた方の食事を作らせて欲しいと説得しました。


The Taliban kidnappers were so impressed with his banquet they decided he was ''safe'' and let him go.

　タリバンの誘拐犯が彼の宴会に非常に感動したので、彼を問題ない人物であるとして釈放することを決めました


Mr Debnath said: ''I cooked hot, spicy Indian food for them the way we have it in the Sunderbans in India.

「インドのスンダルバンズの調理方法で、私は彼らに辛い、香辛料のきいたインド料理を作りました。」と、ソメン・デブナス氏は言いました。


''They were very happy and told my interpreter that I seemed to be a safe guy.

彼らは非常に喜び、私が安全な奴だと思えると私の通訳に話ました。


''In the meantime, I had chatted up the interpreter and through our short exchanges, made it clear that I was just a man who was out on adventure and had no intentions of harming their cause.

一方、私も通訳に話かけて、短い会話で、私はただ冒険のために出かけていだけで、あなた方の活動を邪魔する意図はなかったとはっきり言いました。


''The interpreter must have passed this on and I was set free after 24 days. The first sunlight which hit my eyes out in the open almost blinded me.''

「通訳がこれを伝えたに違いありません。私は24日後に自由の身になりました。 外でみた最初の太陽の光は私の目をくらませました。」

　一体、どんな説得をしたら、捕虜の立場で料理を作ることができるんでしょうか？直接自分の釈放を訴えないで料理を作らせて欲しいというところに何らかの作戦があったのだろうか？
　ここまで極端な例はともかく、　料理とかスポーツとか。言語が通じなくても相手と通じ合えて仲良くなれるモノってありますよね

　実際にサイトを見てみると、日本国内や世界各国の各地域のゴシップ的・２ちゃんねる的な情報が数多く掲載されています。でもその裏情報から現地の生活が垣間見れたり、地名や建造物などのなるほどなマメ知識が見れたりして非常に面白い。
　旅行先だけでなく自分の地元などをみてもかなり面白いです。
　但し情報の信憑性はいかに？
